Blackville's Olivia Buggie Receives Sportsmanship Award

The New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association hosted its 13th annual awards banquet Tuesday, May 8 at St. Thomas University. Twenty-three athletes were saluted with Raymond Legere Sportsmanship Awards.

Blackville High School’s Olivia Buggie was one of the recipients of the award, which is given to young athletes who have shown outstanding qualities throughout the school year while participating in NBIAA sports. Olivia is in grade 12 and is the daughter of Rodney Buggie and Lori Brophy.

Previous recipients of this award from Blackville School include: Burt Dunn (2008), Jessica Underhill and Robert Keenan (2009), Brody Dunnett and Abby MacRae (2012), Jordan Underhill (2013), Larissa Bryenton (2015), Daniel Richard (2017).

The village of Blackville is governed by an elected council made up of a mayor and four councillors. Incorporated as a village in 1966, Blackville has a population of 958 and has had a long history related to forestry and salmon fishing.
